For three days in June, the Ruïnekerk‘s churchyard will host the second edition of Heerlijk Bergen, a fabulous food festival you really don’t want to miss. Heerlijk translates loosely to ‘delicious’, and my, did I taste some delicious fare last year!
Many of Bergen’s restaurants will be taking part, each with its own food truck – windows down, doors open – offering visitors the chance to savour some of the best food on their menus. Little bites, finger food, small dishes – and all attractively priced so you can wander along to the next food truck to try something else. And there’ll be trucks representing the kitchens of Vietnam, Brazil and Surinam this year, too, so if your tastes are more exotic, be sure to stop by them.
An excellent line-up of local artists will provide entertainment late into the evening at this must-do culinary event, where the atmosphere is laid back, wine flows liberally and locals take the opportunity to catch up. By the end of the evening, you should have a reasonable idea of what the famous Dutch gezelligheid is all about!
There’s plenty to do for the kids, too, with a swing carousel, old Dutch games, face-painting and cup-cake making to keep them happy while you tuck in and tuck in again.
Heerlijk Bergen is organised by the restaurants Bergen Binnen, Fabels, ‘t Parkje and Wonder’s in conjunction with events agency Zomaar Events.
