BeautifulBergen.com Goes Live!

After a couple of months’ preparation – research, writing, taking photographs and frustration at my ignorance of web technology – there’s finally enough basic structure for BeautifulBergen.com to go live. The site is meant to be an informal but informative visitor guide to the beautiful village of Bergen on the northwest coast of the Netherlands and it is written in English so that the details of the many wonderful things Bergen has to offer – its stunning natural beauty, its incredible history, its ubiquitous art – can be shared with a majority of visitors and potential visitors. Until now, very little information about Bergen has been available on the internet in English, and what can be found is fragmented or focussed on one specific subject and, unfortunately, often poorly written. BeautifulBergen.com aims to change that.
The website as launched today was created on a budget of zero euros. The first advertorial, kindly commissioned by Restaurant Cunst, has paid the initial hosting and URL-registration fees. But since I want the website to grow and because content creation is such a time-consuming business, I’m going to need to generate revenues in order to do justice to its full potential. Bills, after all, need to be paid and for that reason, the BeautifulBergen website offers advertising space to local and other, select businesses. Also, I intend to attract a handful of sponsors to finance certain parts of BeautifulBergen, such as the Bergen Artists page. I’m still very much toying with ideas in this respect, but for now Bergen’s restaurants, bars, hotels and shops are invited to submit advertorials. You needn’t worry about translation, that can be included in our arrangement. And you needn’t worry about having to communicate with BeautifulBergen in English, either, as my Dutch is reasonably good.
