Getting to Bergen

By car

From the south:

  • Head north up the A9 motorway from Amsterdam, exit at Alkmaar and follow the N9 towards Den Helder for approximately six kilometres. Bergen is well signposted.

From the north:

  • Follow the N9 southwards from Den Helder. Bergen is signposted.

Parking

Parking can be a bit of a pain in the centre, even at the best of times, but there are a couple of options. Paid street parking costs €1.90 per hour (max. €12.00 per day). Beware of blue 'zone E Bergen', in which you must display a parking disc and can park for an hour only. A slightly more expensive option is the garage beneath supermarket Deen on your left as you drive into the centre. Outside the centre, parking is free, but be sure to carefully check the relevant signposting.

Public transport

Take a train to Alkmaar station. From there a regular bus service (No. 166) departs to Bergen Plein (the square). The last service to Bergen departs at 23:23 and the last service back to Alkmaar at 23:53. Please confirm this information for yourself if you plan to take the last bus, as timetables regularly change.
